Liebster award

A few days ago I got nominated for the Liebster award by  THECRUMBSOFMYLIFE ( Thank you for the nomination).

Although I am honored, I must admit that I would usually shy away from participating in such things. But, since I pledget to be open and positive to new things, here we go. Basically, I nominate some other people, answer some questions and get to “torture” the ones I nominated with my questions *evil laugh* ( if they choose to participate, that is ).

Here are the official rules :

And the questions :

  1. If you were a sandwich, what kind would you be and why?
  2. Something with pickles, mainly because I like them. It’s not the sexiest vegetable, but who cares.

  3. What is your favorite color and what do you own that is that color?
  4. I guess I should say black since my open closet looks like a black hole.

  5. You have to give a TedX presentation – what is your topic?
  6. That’s a hard one.. you can already find a TedX on mostly anything. I guess it would be on how to achieve something worthy of a TedTalk.

  7. What was your best vacation ever?
  8. Going to the sea alone with my older sister in eight grade, because I always secretly thought she was cool and I was glade whenever I could spend time with her. Also no one tell her that because I won’t hear the end of it.

  9. What is the best present you have ever received?
  10. I am not much of a present person. It’s not exactly a present, but I would say the little sacrifices I saw my parents make over the years to make my life easier.

  11. If you found an unmarked suitcase with $1 million in it – what would you do?
  12. I watch too many movies so I would probably asume that someone will come after me if I take it. I guess I would invest.. nah, I would go to Hawaii.

  13. If you could invite any 5 people – living or dead – to a dinner party, who do you invite?
  14. Matt Damon, Johnny Depp, Leonardo da Vinci, Kevin Hart and Whoopi Goldberg.

  15. If you knew today would be your last, where would you want to be?
  16. As I said.. Hawaii. Just give me a beach and a cocktail, really.

  17. What is your favorite board and/or card game?
  18. I don’t have one, what I do have is a temper. Enough said.

  19. What is the first piece of advice you would give to your 20-year-old self?
  20. Try not embarras yourself in public as often as you do, also stay consistent with the things you set to do in your mind, also take your own advice.

  21. At what age did you first fall in Love?
  22. I guess I was about five. It wasn’t love love but I just liked to torture that one boy in kindergarten.

My nominees:

Vegetarian roundup

Today is World vegetarian day (I just found out, but I’m going to act all smart), so I decided to make a little different post today- a roundup of a few vegetarian and vegan recepies I found on various blogs.
I am a vegetarian for, I guess, a year an a half now, but I often eat vegan. I can say that I absolutely enjoy the lifestyle so far and I am open to talk about it and it’s benefits, however, I am not trying to push it on anybody or argue about it.
I just want to thank all of the food bloggers out there in the name of all culinary failures, like me, because without you I would be stranded eating peanut butter sanwiches for every meal.
Here we go:

However, I could eat peanut butter for every meal if I had to. Let’s start with a smoothie, perfect if you’re working out.

Another healthy dish. Also it looks so fresh and colorful… perfect for Instagram.

Abandoning the healthy trend already (story of my life). Veggie burgers are a classic and turns out kind of easy to make (seriously.. if I can do it).

Eggplant is one of my favourites and you can make it a lot of different ways. This is actually a new one I found and I’ll have to try it out soon.

Also one of my favourites.. although my mom is probably sick of it.

Something sweet at the end.

All of the photographs, of course, belong to the blog owners.

Global Goals

Good evening from the world of no internet connection. How did humanity survive before the year 2000?
Anyway, if the connection cooperates for a few minutes I would like to share something.
The Global Goals campaign. You might have already seen it, if you haven’t definitely check out the link. World leaders have created 17 goals to make the world better, now it is up to everyone to share them, get involved, informed and get the goverments working.
All of them are important to adress and I don’t know which one to wrire about, but I think I will pick nuber 8.
Decent work and economic growth. Being from a country raid with corruption where I will probably not be able to find work, I can identify with what it’s like not to have oportunity.
A world without poverty and inequality seems like an utopia, but we are capeable of changing things, step by step. As long as you know that it is posible for things to get better, you can move forward.

Fangirl tales.

One thing you should know about me is that I am not capable of liking anything. I either get obsessed with it and let it completely consume my life or I don’t like it at all.

That being said, you can imagine that movies, books, music etc. have always had a big impact on me. Here’s a little list of some of the most memorable things that had an impact on me.

P!nk- Conversations with my 13 year old self. When I stumble across one of her emotional songs I’m back to my 13 year old self confused and crying in my room. How could you describe me so well? She will always be my strong role model. You can be tough even though you are vulnerable.

Linkin Park- Valentine’s day. In eight grade I heard a song on the radio and fell in love. Damn that day. Thanks to that, a year later I met a boy…back when you would still bond over music because it was the most important think to ask people. Two years after that, I got my heart broken, as you do. That’s the story of why the best way to piss me of is to play a LP song. For a long time if you asked me what I would like to forget about my past it would be that story, but even though it was painful I don’t think so anymore because the painfull stuff helped shape the person I am today.

“People always leave”- Peyton Sawyer, who by the way is the coolest person ever.I wanted to be Peyton Sawyer, black Converse and all. Living in a teenage drama town like One tree hill, was the dream. Thanks to that I became a music geek and my playlist would often be a mix of all genres, r’n’b next to heavy metal next ro reggae. My room had a different color every month (sorry mum) and I will forever love that show because it inspired me to start exploring art.

“One preson’s craziness is another person’s reality.” – Tim Burton. He was a great inspiration for a long time, along with Helena Bonham Carter and their adopted child- Johnny Depp. Because of them, I fell in love with movies and it made me consider the ‘behind the scenes’ aspect of movie making. They also taught me that being a little weird is perfectly fine. My andmirarion can also be seen here:

If you're a fan you'll know

Or equals three. Or the first youtube show I ever watched. I met my best friend because of bonding over that show. To most people those are just silly videos, but to me it opened a whole new way to see the world over the internet. And not just fun videos and fighting in the comment section but a way to share and hear personal stories. There is a sense of community and an opportunity to learn about each other that wasn’t present before. We have endless information about anything, so if you have internet connection, being ignorant is really a choice.

That was only a few honorable mentions and there are many more things I generally fan girl about, which we could maybe discuss in a later post. I may not like some of those things anymore but at one point they helped shape me as a person and this deep impact it can have is really the importance of art.

Coffe o’clock

“This morning,
with her,
having coffee.”

– Johnny Cash, when asked for his description of paradise.

What I enjoy about having coffee is not the coffee. It’s that little time out, that little moment you get for yourself before you have to rush to work. Or that moment you share with a friend sitting in a coffee shop. That little moment that feels like time is moving slower and everything is going to be just fine.

In response to the Writing101 assignment. I didn’t have inspiration for a longer post.

A map to a paper town

Last week I finaly got to see the Paper Towns movie so I wanted to make a post. Mostly I just wanted to have a reason to share my drawing inspired by the book:

Yes I actually went outside to pin that down and take a picture while my neighbours were awkwardy staring.

Great. Now that the grounds are all covered. The book/movie deals with misinterpretation of another person. Idealising someone, imagening them as more than they are. A fenomenon often called ‘having a crush’. I can say I’m guilty.I tend to create a picture of someone in my head based on very little information, which is a very unhealthy habit. That way, I’m just setting myself up for disappointment and and setting unfair expectations on the other person.

We often find it hard to see another person as someone who has fears and stays up at night thinking about life and what they are doing with it and how cool it would be to have a howerboard ( and I mean an actual howering one , not one of those segways every internet person is beeing anoying with, even thaugh they do seem kind of great). Anyway, it made me think about my own need to meet other people’s expectations and how I wory about being perceived a certain way, when often you are already a simplified concept in their mind just as they may be in yours. Like that one guy who went to kindergarten with you who ate his boogers and now you just know him as that guy who ate his booger even thaugh he’s a grown up with a life and you don’t know him at all. It’s hard to imagine others as more than a concept, something separated from us, an idea of what they might be, someone who we don’t realize is as complex as we are. If we could remind ourselves that the other person is also human, in fact as much human as we are, it could save us quite some trouble.

Unless there is a possibility they are an alien projecting in a human body. In that case, I don’t know.. one love?

And the movie was great by the way.

Lessons from the last airbender

I have seen dozends of post about this, but one more can’t hurt. This is of course about Avatar: the last airbender. That was my favourite thing to watch growing up and I still watch it whenever I’m feeling down. It’s not just a cartoon, it’s full of spiritual guidance and life lessons MOM!
And even thought I am stil pissed because I can’t bend ( not even one element, seriously?), there is a lot that you can take away from the series, especially if you revisit it from a more mature standpoint. You can find wisdom anywhere if you are willing to see a lesson. Aaaand que the quotes.

“Sometimes life is like this dark tunnel. You can not always see the light at the end of the tunnel, but if you just keep moving you will come to a better place. “

“It is important to draw wisdom from many different places. If you take it from only one place it becomes rigid and stale. Understanding others (the other elements and the other nations) will help you become whole.”… see, that’s what I said.

“The greatest ilusion in this world is the ilusion of separation. Things you think are separate and different are actually one and the same. We are all one people, but we live as if devided.”

“You think you’re different from me ? Or your friends? Or this tree? If you listen hard enough you can hear every living thing breathing together. You can feel everything growing. We’re all living together, even if most folks don’t act like it. We all have the same roots and we are branches of the same tree.”

“Knowledge of the arts belongs to us all.”

“The true mind can weather all lies and illusions without being lost. The true heart can touch the poison of hatred without being harmed. Since beginningless time, darkness thrives in the void, but always yields to purifying light.”

“..If you look for the light you can often find it, but if you look for the dark that is all you will ever see.”

“You must never give in to despair. Allow yourself to slip down that road and you surrender to your lowest instincts. In the darkest times hope is something you give yourself. That is the meaning of inner strenght.”

This could go on forever but it’s enough for now. Thanks for reading, after all “Sharing tea with a fascinating stranger is one of life’s true delights.”.. or coffee.. or votka.. okay..
